Child Orthopedics

Children’s Orthopedics deals with the evaluation and management of musculoskeletal problems involving the growing bones, joints, and muscles in children (new-born to teenagers). Children’s orthopedic surgeons focus their medical practice on the care of children and are trained in special skills in children’s orthopedics as an additional subspecialty.

Musculoskeletal problems in children differ from those of an adult as they are still in various stages of growth. The evaluation and treatment of children are also different from that of an adult. Some musculoskeletal problems in children are due to abnormal growth not found in adult cases. Complex musculoskeletal problems in children are best treated by a medical-surgical approach from a children’s orthopedic surgeon.
